Commercial roofing needs to be tough, to withstand storms and high winds, and resilient, to last a long time and minimize repair costs. You don’t want to spend more than necessary on your roofing. Here are four common types of roofing that will keep your business safe.
Bitumen is a strong adhesive that helps roof layers stick together better. Modified bitumen is a combination of bitumen and asphalt for an even better seal. A surface layer is applied once the layers are built up. The surface layer can be granulated or smooth.
EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Terpolymer)
EPDM is a rubberized coating membrane that roofers apply in strips. It comes in rolls of varying lengths and thickness. It is very protective. The seams between rows of EPDM are further sealed with weatherproof tape or another waterproof sealant. Flat roofs or roofs with low slopes do very well with EPDM coatings.
Thermoplastics (PVC, TPO)
Even tougher than EPDM, thermoplastics like PVC and TPO make your roof highly resistant to storm damage. It is similar to EPDM, but instead of having seams that are reinforced by sealants or tape, the seams of thermoplastics are actually welded for greater strength.
